Sociable or Anti-Social? Friendship are easy to make but hard to continue
My peers in Singapore especially in secondary school might feel that i'm quite AS yet friendly to my juniors.
My friends in trinity shall forever perceive me as the energiser bunny, super high, super social.
My friends in uni.. well, it's not easy talking to the group of ppl.. the actuarists.
People in OCF are easier to talk to.. though not all.
I used to talk freely to people, getting to know them, getting their phone numbers and msn emails. Often adding and attempting to connect with them online, a much easier job than talking face to face.
But the problem is this, they take their own sweet time to be online (some never seen online at all) then i forget all about them.. numbers to be untouched and emails never to be used.
some weird stories:
- met this girl in an event. Got her email and phone number. Halfway when typing her number in my phonebook, her name actually popped up! Absentmindedly thinking that i might have already put her number down earlier, i ignored the sign. Proceeding to add her on msn, i wondered why i just couldn't seem to put her in the particular grouping in msn. Frustrated, i searched through each group. i found her exact email there too! had met her like 2 - 3 years before at a dance club and we've basically never really spoken much otherwise! amazing!
- talked to this other girl online .. asked her how her research went and all.. super friendly right... but one day i didn't expect her to come for welcome night and i was wondering who she was.. goodness. super paiseh to find out that it was her!
btw, learnt to play CS on wednesday. Whahaa.
randomness. shall learn to link things together. dang. i have to learn to stop triumphing my own partner. too excited already. haha. here's a good advice. "when in doubt, just triumph".
1st Skype call in ages (inspired by Charis' prim and proper chat) mine felt real rough and rugged (like how my mum described my voice). "spend ur time wisely - last year already. finish ur degree before u plan what you want to do" dang. it's terrible to be lost without a direction. God, guide me won't you?

Aching body. (feeling almost.. old)
Focus. Focus.
That's what i lack at times. The purpose. The drive.
Taking up Wushu has enabled me to take up a form of discipline where i might be able to direct some focus to.
Earlier in the year, i had planned to join many different clubs: from overseas christian fellowship (OCF - a must!), students arising learning to serve (SALTS), city gospel fellowship (CGF) [religion] to Entrepreneur investment club (EIC)[sth commercy] to chinese music group (CMG) , engineering music society (EMS) [music] to tae kwan do [sporty].
By the time i got through first week of uni, i found out that my commitment to OCF meant that SALTS was a no-no, EIC might clash very occassionally (if i wanted a break on fridays), EMS would be an additional thing on top of playing flute in church, tae kwan do.. well, the people weren't that enthusiastic in welcoming us! lol.
Apparently, ppl at wushu's not too bad.. a small welcoming group is good =D But of course, the sacrifice of meeting these nice people is the aches and sores from stretches .. typically, a good match at badminton makes me sore for 1-2 days and i'll be free and happy from those aching feelings. Unfortunately, perhaps i'm not that stretchable (though i'm told by the master that i'm quite - must be some of those flare dance stuff that paid off)
So that's my life in uni outside classes =D
Back to studies in uni, that's where my drive is lacking. =p Having 2 days off uni with no job, no huge commitment (well, at least there's wushu now) means the challenge in starting to do work. So far, failed to complete tuts before classes start. I'll have to kick start myself after this week's tuts.. and catch up soon..
note: here's an interesting thing. 3 friends of mine collaborated and decided that they would take turns to nag me into studying.. how cool is that! haha. great friends.

20th birthday!
Firstly, i'll like to thank those people who wished me happy birthday on this special day =D
unfortunately, half of this special day was occupied by the activity of flying and clearing customs.
The mad rush for trolleys was "as though we're in some 3rd world country" (quoted from some unknown guy in the airport) and unfortunately i would have to agree. The entire arrival hall was crowded and messy. After painstakenly removing my luggage, the idea of "following the crowd" proved valuable in this chaotic environment. Attempts to check if the crowd was right only allowed others who used that valuable idea to lengthen the line that we were supposed to join.
Customs threw away my bak kut teh herbs coz the ingredients weren't stated as well as my home made (i was the one who made them somemore!) love letters. I knew egg products not allowed but sometimes cny goodies allowed =x maybe i really should have told her that i made them myself but i doubted that she would have cared. Saw her checking another girl's bag earlier (could be a different person checking actually) crazy. take out EVERYTHING in the luggage.. even her underwear as well! so degrading okie.. Somehow she seemed to be 'dusting' all the plastics found.. eg, maggie noodles packets, new clothes inside those transparent plastics etc.. Obviously this was a student by the number of instant noodles =p
almost missed the orientation stuff but noticed stuff at south lawn and wandered around, getting freebies. Got mainly lollies, choc, jelly beans, SALTY popcorn (which became my lunch) and met Rena. Later also met up with Mei Ling and we did some crazy stuff with this 'bee man' (aka taking pix to be placed on facebook) and got free donuts.
Went back to rest for a while first then was abit late for dinner. Dressed up abit, wore the black blouse with a white tube in it plus my handbag plus shoes (with cute ribbons) as quoted by ahi. Although i didn't read the letters given to me by my friends at dinner in advance (which apparently all seemed to 'advice' me to be more mature and responsible), i wonder if this dress sense can last long enough to reflect.
anyway, more thanks to those at dinner, for the gifts as well =D but most importantly was the company i got for dinner =) it's really been great

1st post in 2008
it's now 5.50am on the 1st Feb!
1 whole month has passed since the new year!
things i've been busy with:
1) work! @ AIA. Finally, after a whole month, i'm able to interact more fluently with my colleagues =D At last, i can roughly master the various chinese names found amongst the stuff! been helping them to check loads of reports and i learnt one important thing: excel is very useful and essential! at least i learn this before my final year in uni, otherwise, i bet i would have continued to undermine the importance of this program and ignored the great benefits found within it.
2) meeting up with various people who have bothered coming out to catch up =D Sports is always a great way to improve relations and ease and facilitate conversational flows. But of course, sometimes without it, leads to a less distracting situation to really catch up with the other =) Dinner is always a good way to do so. Many more people to catch up with though. 25 more days left before i officially arrive in Melbourne once more! How many people can i squeeze within this time i wonder?
Some other random stuff:
a) Saw a car catch fire on the highway! (or near it) have a picture of it somewhere in my phone but i think the quality is quite bad so i shall save your eyes from getting irritated. =D
b) there's currently a bug above me and i am so scared stiff that i dont know if i can go to bed before my dad and sis wakes up for sch. makes me think of the 'bee movie' where the reason they suggested bugs fly towards lamps is because they think it's the sun (the attractiveness of bright lights) but the buzzing is just killing my nerves now. eeek!
anyway people, happy chinese new year in advance! =D not sure if i would be busy helping my mum bake stuff until i'm too lazy to post anything or not. but if that's the case, might just end up posting pix of the cake we'll have baked =)

peopleless person?
feeling a bit anti-social these few days. Well, there's work, but i don't know how to start talking to them working adults (though they are not really THAT old) realised that im quite selfish. =x don't know the comparisons between most things (let's say which type of food is best found where etc.) simple conversational skills have officially left me as i struggle hard to speak of things other than myself =x (feeling very self-centred and unable to shift the focus away.)

quick update
just back from China a few hours ago and I'm going to start work tomorrow morning. My dad's car battery died and it would thus be necessary to wake up early to catch the bus on my own =x
Currently sapping internet from some neighbour of mine who didn't lock their internet.
some interesting things that happened in China:
- a man was spotted holding the sign "harry potter" at the airport (apparently pranked upon)
- saw a man peeing on the roadside! (saw him from the back la!)
- road sweepers work at night with small torches attached to their brooms!
- there are such things as motor bikers who act as taxis! (one tried to pick me up! good thing the guy i was with knew what was happening)
- christmas celebrations in china = more reasons for clubbing
more to be updated upon completion of job requirements for the next day

culture shock in singapore

ever seen this on a table in a food court in Singapore? how about multiple articles placed in a row?
when a fellow colleague from Indonesia asked me what they were for, i stoned for a while. Haha. sudden cultural shock.
digging deep into my memory, i recalled several possible uses..
then of course, it struck me!
what else is prominent in Singapore? haha, what has Amanda been reminding me of the characteristics of Singaporeans.. Kiasu-ness! =x
